Hello and welcome to another September edition of the Shorewood Family Dental Care blog!

We are your trusted source for restorative dentistry solutions in Illinois.

If you are in need of some life-changing improvements, we’d love to help get you smiling again.

Dental restoration involves any work needed to rebuild a single tooth or multiple teeth, with the aim of bringing back both your ability to chew, eat, and talk with confidence, and your health–dental or otherwise.

For today’s post, we want to take a look at dental implants, how they work, and the ways in which they can replicate the look, feel, and function of your smile.

When you are finished reading, be sure to get in touch with our Shorewood team to schedule your consultation with Dr. Funk!

Dental Implants Are Great

Modern dental implants are made of of a metal called titanium. Titanium is the metal of choice because it bonds strongly to your jawbone in a process called osseointegration.

Our Implants are made to assume the function that a natural tooth root would perform in your mouth. The actual implants look kind of like a little screw because of the way they are threaded. This is what allows us to attach caps, abutments, and oral appliances to them so that you will look good.

You will love that, if properly cared for, a dental implant will be a permanent solution for all of your troubles.

The Placement Process Is Simple

A small surgery will get the job done for you. To put, the implants are screwed into your jaw, where they are allowed to heal and bond to the bone over the course of 2-3 months.

Once the site is healed, we will attach the artificial tooth (the crown) to the implant’s abutment.

Implants Are Like Teeth

Our implants act just like your normal teeth and they are far better than the options that existed in your grandpa’s day. They distribute biting force just like natural teeth, allowing you to get back on track fast by eating the food you love, and finding confidence again in having a complete smile and a fuller face.

Full-Mouth Reconstruction

If you are overwhelmed by the situation in your mouth, don’t despair. When you have multiple kinds of damage or tooth loss to contend with, getting your smile and ability to eat without pain and embarrassment can seem like an impossible task. That’s why we are proud to offer full-mouth reconstruction sequences to get you where you need to go.
