Take a deep breath.

Try to relax. Try not to worry.

You have a dental appointment.

Thankfully, it’s at Shorewood Family Dental Care with a team of people who want you to be as comfortable as possible. Your physical and emotional well-being matter to us.

If you have dental anxiety, you won’t be the first patient we’ve helped, and you won’t be the last either. It’s OK if you are fearful of dental care. Millions of people share that feeling.

What we can do is help learn ways to manage those feelings so lack of dental care doesn’t rob you of your smile.

To learn how we could help you, start by calling 815-768-1615 to reach our dental office in Shorewood, IL.

You Deserve a Healthy Mouth

No matter how you feel about sitting in a dental chair, we all agree that you deserve to have the healthiest mouth possible.

While this will keep your smile looking nice, that’s not the only reason you need to keep up your oral health. More than 90 percent of people will have at least one cavity in their lives, and experts estimate that between 70 and 80 percent of people will develop gum disease as well.

However, you may not realize that poor oral health has been connected with other health problems, including high blood pressure, cardiovascular and heart disease, and heart attacks.

We think this is important for you to know.

Knowing this is not going to make it any easier for you to schedule a dental exam, but it is important for you to appreciate that your oral and overall health are linked.

Easing Back into a Dental Chair

To get back in the dental chair, it helps to find a people you trust in a place where people are concerned about how you feel. We believe you will find that if you visit our Shorewood, IL office.

We’ve added amenities to help you feel more like visiting a friend when you spend time with you. We will gladly provide you with a neck pillow and a blanket to help you feel cozier in one of our chairs. We also televisions in each room, so you can distract yourself with one of your favorite shows while we do what we do best.

For patients with more serious anxiety, we also know it may take more than a blanket and a sitcom to have a dental cleaning. Members of our team have completed training in three types of dental sedation:

  • Laughing gas — This is a fast, simple, and effective option.
  • Oral sedation — This is a little stronger, but it provides the same pain-blocking and calming benefits.
  • IV sedation — This is the strongest type of sedation we offer, and we are one of the few practices in Illinois that has completed the requirements to offer this option.
