If you live in the Shorewood, IL area, there is really only one team you would want to trust your smile to: Shorewood Family Dental Care. Dr. Vicioso believes in the quality of dentistry that comes along with having a highly-skilled and compassionate crew. He has seen firsthand how an office that has a family-like atmosphere will be better for patients, who are cared for like people and not numbers on charts. Along with Dr. Funk and Dr. Bruck, Dr. Vicioso has been helping folks in our community achieve the level of oral health that they deserve.
Because we are so big on prevention, in today’s post we wanted to talk about some tips related to preventive dentistry that you should keep top of mind throughout the year.
Keep reading, and then be sure to follow up with our all-star team to schedule your next appointment in our Shorewood, IL dentist’s office.
It Starts At Home
You are the one who controls your own destiny. No one else can make you want a clean mouth and a great-looking smile if you don’t want those things for yourself. Since you are reading our online educational platform, we assume that you do want those things. So, you will need to be diligent about your hygiene habits at home, beginning with brushing your teeth.
Our friends at the ADA recommend brushing for a minimum of two minutes, twice a day, to get the best results. We also want you to make sure you are swapping your brush out regularly. And, as crazy as it may seem, don’t ever brush within 30 minutes of eating!
Flossing is another big deal for preserving your smile. This is because flossing is the only way to remove food, tartar, plaque, etc. that hides in between your teeth where your toothbrush can’t reach. Do it daily!
To take it further, try using an age-appropriate mouthwash. A good mouthwash can add some protection, and will leave your breath feeling fresh. FInd one with fluoride!
We can not stress this one enough: drink plenty of water. This will help wash away debris, and it will allow you to produce more bacteria-fighting saliva. Water that is fortified with fluoride is even better! Stay away from soft drinks, sports drinks, and alcoholic beverages!
Our Team Takes It From Here
Dr. Vicioso, Dr. Funk, and Dr. Bruck want to see your smiling face in one of our chairs every 6 months, at least. This gives us a chance to clean your teeth, check on your progress, and create a healthy pattern of prevention moving forward.
Teeth Cleanings & Dental Exams
Keep in mind: if you choose not to come see us every six months, you will greatly increase your odds of dealing with periodontal disease, cavities, and other costly dental problems later on. Take the easy way out instead!
We will be gentle and attentive to your needs while you are here. What’s more, our professional grade cleanings are designed to eradicate any lingering tartar, plaque, bacteria and so forth.
Plus, when you are here we will look at your mouth for signs of emerging causes for concern that need to be addressed sooner rather than later. At our Shorewood, IL dentist’s office, we have the well-trained eyes and expensive tools that help keep your mouth safe.
If need be, we can always take your prevention program deeper. Some of the additional measures available at our office include:
Fluoride works wonders for the health of your mouth. This is an easy way for you to help strengthen enamel and prevent decay.
This is great for kids, but also helpful for many adults who are more prone to decay. Dental sealants erect a wall of sorts between your teeth and potential dangers.
We are there for the things you least expect to happen. If you are experiencing a toothache or other pain, have had a tooth dislodged, or have otherwise damaged teeth that need attention, our best dentist are always here for you!
