Dental Implants: State of the Art Tooth Restorations!

Dental Implants near Joliet, IL

A single missing tooth can start a domino effect of damage to your oral health. When one tooth is lost, the bone that supported it starts to shrink. The neighboring teeth will begin to shift to close the gap, which means your bite will change, and the shifting teeth can also become loose. As your teeth shift and move, the risk of additional tooth loss increases as well!

All of the trouble associated with one lost tooth could be prevented with a bridge, but all that will do is stop the shifting of the neighboring teeth – bone will still shrink, meaning those teeth are still at risk for becoming loose or possibly falling out!

What’s The Solution To The Domino Effect?

Dental implants are an excellent treatment modality for somebody who is missing one tooth or more than one tooth. The implant is basically a new root so where the root was, where the tooth was lost, the dental implant is placed so the implant itself is a replacement root. On top of that then, a post goes onto the replacement root or implant and then we cement a new tooth on top so it’s just like a brand new replacement tooth. When I place them here, we actually use some computerized technology. We take a CT scan which we have here in our office, it’s a 3D model of the patient’s jaw. It takes away the guess work. We know exactly then where we are going to place the implant. We do a virtual surgery on the screen and then when the patient comes in we already know what size, what measurements. It is a very straightforward procedure and patients are always surprised at how easy that implant placement procedure is.

At Shorewood Family Dental Care, we’re proud to offer state-of-the-art dental implants near Joliet, IL which stop the effects of tooth loss dead in their tracks. Unlike other dental restorations that just give you the look of having a tooth, dental implants go deeper to restore your tooth from the root up!

A dental implant is a screw that is placed in your jaw. It is roughly the same size as the root of a tooth and acts to stabilize your bone and prevent degradation of tissue. Dental implants in Shorewood, IL are made from titanium, which is incredibly good at bonding to bone, making it stable and well-integrated. Your implant is a permanent solution to your tooth loss problem!

Who is the Ideal Candidate?

When you’ve lost one or more teeth, the bone loss that quickly follows can reduce the thickness of your jaw by a surprising amount. For patients who have suffered from bone loss, an implant isn’t always a good solution – sometimes there isn’t enough bone to make it stable!

Part of getting an implant will be a full assessment of your dental health – we want to be sure an implant is a good solution for you! Patients who are a good fit for an implant tend to have the following things in common:

  • Good oral hygiene
  • Solid bone density
  • Healthy gums
  • Non-smoker

There’s no substitute for a scheduled oral examination, however, so if you want to find out if you qualify make an appointment today!

What is Getting a Dental Implants Like?

Basically an implant is giving you back your natural tooth. So you see a surgeon and he will put a Titanium post in your bone which is acting like the root of your tooth and then you come to see us and we basically put the crown, your tooth structure back into place and patients don’t know the difference in that and their tooth they had before. It functions really naturally and I’ve never had a patient that wasn’t happy in the end. Patients getting an implant, afterwards they have less pain than they would have with a root canal or even a lot of fillings or a crown. So post operatively they do really well and they can’t believe how painless the whole process really is.

When you decide to get an implant, and we’ve determined you’re eligible, we’ll start with a treatment plan. Depending on your current oral health, treatment may be needed to get you to the best place for an implant procedure, and we’ll work with you to ensure it happens!

Your dental implants procedure will involve numbing the area, and sedation if desired. Once you are comfortable, we’ll place the implant in your jaw. We’ll also cap the implant with a post that is used to attach your crown.

We also take a 3-D digital impression of your mouth, which is used to build your crown in a dental lab. After your implant has fully healed (usually several months), your crown will be attached, and you’ll be able to enjoy your new tooth!

Dental implants are the future of dentistry and can replace your teeth safely and effectively in ways no other treatment can. To find out more about your options for dental implants near Joliet, IL , call our office today at (815) 725-5991. You can also request an appointment using our online form.
