Best Toothpaste Brand for Your Teeth

Where did the summer go?! Now that the school year is upon us its time again for a back to school dental visit. We want to help you and your family stay on-track with your oral health needs as your schedule gets increasingly busy.

Dental care for kids isn’t just about keeping their teeth clean. The habits they will learn early on, both at home and at the dentist, will establish a pattern of care that will be essential for ensuring a future of great teeth.

In today’s post we wanted to relay our suggestions for preventive dentistry practices.

Read on and then be sure to follow up with our team to schedule your next appointment in our Shorewood, IL dentist’s office.

Get On-Track At Home

Like we said, it is key to teach your children good hygiene habits. Their little eyes are watching, and they deserve a good example. Take some time to work together on the shared goal of good oral health.

The first thing you will need to do is model good brushing techniques and to try and stress why this is important.

The ADA recommends brushing for a minimum of two minutes, twice a day, to get the full effect. Also, make sure you change your brush out regularly. And don’t ever brush within 30 minutes of eating.

Flossing is another non-negotiable. Flossing is the only way to remove food, tartar, plaque, etc. that hides in between your teeth where your toothbrush can’t reach. Don’t neglect to do this daily!

A nice way to kick it up a notch is to use age-appropriate mouthwash. A good mouthwash can add some protection, and will leave your breath feeling fresh.

Another thing you can do is drink plenty of water. This will help wash away debris, and it will allow you to produce more bacteria-fighting saliva. Water that is fortified with fluoride is even better!

The Dentist Builds On Your Good Work

Just like you, a back to school dental visit shouldn’t be your child’s only visit, as your child should see the dentist every six months. This gives us a chance to clean their teeth, check on their growth, and create a healthy pattern of prevention.

Cleanings & Exams

Here’s the thing: when you fail to come see us every six months, you greatly increase your odds of dealing with gum disease, cavities, and other dental problems down the road. No one wants that!

Our professional grade cleanings are designed to eradicate any lingering tartar, plaque, bacteria and so forth.

Plus, when you are we will look at your mouth for indications of emerging issues that need to be addressed. In our Shorewood, IL dentist’s office, we have the know-how that will go a long way towards keeping you safe.

After your visit, you will look better, and feel better. Plus, we can take your prevention program deeper.

Extra Protection

There is a lot that we can do to keep you smiling through the school year, and all through life. Some of the additional measures available at our office include:

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride does amazing things for the health of your mouth. This is an easy way for you to help strengthen enamel and prevent decay.

Dental Sealants

This builds a wall of sorts between your teeth and potential dangers. This is great for kids, but also helpful for many adults who are more prone to decay.

Emergency Care

If your child is experiencing a toothache or other pain, has had a tooth dislodged, or has otherwise damaged teeth that need attention, we can help with that too!
