Many of our patients feel nervous or anxious about visiting the dentist. For kids we use the “Tell, Show, Do” technique. We have found this makes dental care easier for everyone involved.
First, we TELL our patients what we will be doing. This helps involve your child in their treatment. We will always first gauge a patients’ level of understanding and tell them how we will go about treatment in a way suitable and not scary for that child. It is important that they fell like part of the process and are comfortable to ask questions at any time throughout the process. Next, we SHOW our patient what we will be doing. Knowing what the doctor will be doing, the noises to expect from the tools, and the things they could feel throughout the procedure makes the DO step much easier from the patient, the parents, the Doctor, and the team.
Another Way to Protect Your Family’s Smiles
Your child’s oral health is affected by their diet just as much as their oral care. If you have concerns about your children’s habits and their treats-to-brushing ratio, sealants may be the solution. Your child’s hygienist can apply dental sealants at your child’s nest cleaning visit. Tooth sealants create a barrier between the groovy part of the tooth and bacteria trying to cling to those crevasses. While this will not eliminate the need to brush and floss, it will serve as added layer of protection against tooth decay and cavities.
