Dental Cleanings & Family Dentistry
Whether you are new to the area, looking for a new family dentist, or a regular visitor to our office, we look forward to seeing you soon.
Preventative dental cleanings, combined with daily brushing and flossing, is important for keeping your family’s mouths healthy and looking their best.
The American Dental Association recommends brushing and flossing twice a day to remove bacteria and plaque, both of which can lead to cavities, gum disease, and bad breath. (Helpful Hint: Brush at night to keep your teeth, Brush in the morning to keep your friends)
No matter how well you brush and floss, you may have places where plaque has turned into tartar. Regular professional cleanings are the most effective way to prevent that buildup from turning into a potentially serious problem.
Unfortunate but true, but sometimes life gets busy and brushing and flossing do not get the attention they deserve. Lack of attention or even hereditary or environmental factors can allow tooth decay or gum infection to take hold. During your dental exam, our team will be looking for the signs and symptoms associated with a wide array of dental conditions that can come from these factors.
Early detection is key. Treatment is usually simpler, more effective and less expensive when the condition can be caught in early stages.
Catering To Kids’ Needs
Shorewood Family Dental Care is a dentist for the family and is happy to be able to meet all of your family dentistry needs. We know that the needs of children will differ from the needs of their parents.
Many of our patients feel nervous or anxious about visiting the dentist. For kids we use the “Tell, Show, Do” technique. We have found this makes dental care easier for everyone involved.
First, we TELL our patients what we will be doing. This helps involve your child in their treatment. We will always first gauge a patients’ level of understanding and tell them how we will go about treatment in a way suitable and not scary for that child. It is important that they fell like part of the process and are comfortable to ask questions at any time throughout the process. Next, we SHOW our patient what we will be doing. Knowing what the doctor will be doing, the noises to expect from the tools, and the things they could feel throughout the procedure makes the DO step much easier from the patient, the parents, the Doctor, and the team.
Another Way to Protect Your Family’s Smiles
Your child’s oral health is affected by their diet just as much as their oral care. If you have concerns about your children’s habits and their treats-to-brushing ratio, sealants may be the solution. Your child’s hygienist can apply dental sealants at your child’s nest cleaning visit. Sealants create a barrier between the groovy part of the tooth and bacteria trying to cling to those crevasses. While this will not eliminate the need to brush and floss, it will serve as added layer of protection against tooth decay and cavities.
We Want To Keep Seeing You Smile
Make sure your house isn’t the only thing getting a spring cleaning this year!
